New Location shots

This is the new location of where we are going to film. We felt that the underpass was not suitable for a horror film, as the cars travelling behind the actors would give off the same impression as the wood goves. Which is the sense of being alone with nothing around to stop the horror. The woods connote a quiet desolate place where something horrific could happen.

Storyboards and their developments

1st Storyboard

This is our first story board design. This was just the basis shots that we were going to incorporate into our film.
There is only 10 shots in this story board so that we could get just a rough idea of what we thought would be a good option for our filming techniques.

Update

During our time, my group have decided to change the location of the filming from underpass to the woods near willen lake. We believe that this will set the scene better for a horror film.
We have also decided that we will be filming early than previously decided as the torches denote an unnaturtal light upon the actors and the camera visability is not great.
We have written up some dialogue that actors will have to learn for the filming process on wednesday and thursday. All the lighter seeting does not connote evil, the location will still connote that of being alone and thwe horror of what is about to happen.

Location Shots

No Flash

With Flash
This is the location where we will film our opening sequence. The photos that I have taken are some of the actual shots that we will be positioned in for the filming of our opening sequence. The time that i have taken these shots was between 4.36 and 4.43, this tells me that this is the optimal time for us to film our opening sequence. The shot would be better if it was raining but we cannot make it rain so the darkness will do just as good as long as we get the music right the scene will be set as spooky.

The Shining- title sequence

The opening shot of this is of a very large landscape, you can see a car moving along the road. The high angle of this shot allows the audience to see around the whole of the moving car. This is a simliar effect that we have decided to use in our opeing credits. The other shots are of pans that follow the car along the landscape. This is also another angle we are going to use in our title sequence. The music throughout this opening sequence is non-diagetic. The music that plays is a continuous piece that creates an eerie moment for this. Then as the music progressesit then sound like people wailing out, this too creates a very spooky moment, which tells the audience this is going to be a horror film. I think that music is one of the key points to make right, to create a very good horror film.

Grudge 2- Opening Credits

Continuous music is played at the beginning, this is like a high pitched sound. Non-diagetic sound. Then it plays through two producer titles, one changes to reveal the title of the film (Grudge 2). the second plays a womans voice singing to create an eerie moment, this is put together witha skull looking throught a keyhole. the continuous music plays until the first scene of the story. In the next part of the sequence you see a pan sizzling with boiling hot oil. The only sound you hear is background noise, all diagetic. Then the male character starts to raise his voice towards the woman. She then pours the boiling hot oil over his head and then hits him over the head with the pan and watches him die. Throughout her performance in the title sequence she doesn't have any dialogue.

Halloween- Opening Sequence

There is a production name that appears at the beginning of the main sequence which is just to show what production the film is prodiced by. The pumpkin is the only symbol shown in the opening sequence. You don't notice this until half way through that the pumpkin is moving gradually closer towards the screen. This symbol stays at the left hand side of the screen while the credits come up on the right hand side of the screen. The text that appears on the screen is in a clear orange colour that has no effects to it just a simple orange colour. The music that plays through the opening is a continuous plinky plunky music and the a louder doom noise overpowers the continuous sound, by a very deep violin piece, that carrys on for a for seconds.

This continuous music is what we as a group have decided to use on our opening title sequence, not this exact piece, but to creat a similar kind of atmosphere.

This image denotes a white background with the greenery of some trees in the background as well. The angle is slightly to the right so that the person (me) is on the left hand side of the shot, this creates a good angle for a photo. The connotation of the image is of how a pupil can enjoy being on the outside in peace but at the same time can keep up to date with work that has been set. It also shows the 6th form area as a quiet and tranquil area for work and general studying. The white light of the 6th form block in the background also connotes that of hope for the students and peace.

This photo has the
denotation
of the little garden patch outside the 6th form common room.
Showing this photo connotes a sense of life throughout the school and now the new 6th form area. The shot is at an angle which is slightly tilted. The garden outside the 6th form common room represents the growth and development of the school and the students within the community.

This photos denotation is of two students walking down the hall towards the common room (right), this connotes their well deserved break from being hard at work.
The tilt that is added shows that of being unique of being at this brand new school.
They aspect that could have been improved would have been the students being more to the left hand side of the photo, which would create a better image to look at.

This movie was an example of some of the camera techniques, such as pan, track and tilt,  that we are going to use during the Media course. Me (Ollie), Chris and Simon learnt that from this movie we would have to spend a lot of thought on future camera techniques.  We thought that these camera shots were very good some better than others, one of the the shots had some bad lighting in it because we positioned the camera wrong, but we know for next time where to position the camera to get good lighting.
One of the best shots we done throughout this movie was the last one which was the running/action, denoting where the actor was running and the camera was moving around behind him as if the camera was running as well to connote a better atmosphere of the action. this also connotes panic, anticipation and adrenaline for the reason why the actor is running.

Media Preliminary Task

This is Ollie (me), Max, Chris and Paul's Preliminary Task which we think is very good. The only set back that we had was, when we got round to filming the second part of our task we changed the location of it, so we had to go back to a previous shot and also change the dialogue in the shot so that it would make sense in the task. Apart from that everything went on like clockwork.

The Preliminary Task asked us to create a scene where there are two people talking across a table and to have 2 lines of dialect. At first for this task we didn't completely do as the task said as the second part of the film where the two characters are outside and from there onwards until the end was we had as the whole task. We then realised what we needed to do and so what we did was add more shots at the beginning, so the story would be understood. The Preliminary task also asked us to put in reverse shot, match on action and to keep to the 180 degree rule. this we had achieved in the second part of our film but of course it did not have the two lines of dialect or the scene over the table.

The match on action was first used when Paul put his hand on the chair, this was a close up of his hand and then went back out to see him sit down. The second match on action was used when we had a close up of Paul's hand on the door handle, he then went on through the door but just as we had the camera angle switch to be in front of him coming through the door straight towards the camera. Throughout the film we used the over the shoulder shot which is edited into a shot reverse shot. In the first over the shoulder camera angle it was of the conversation over the table between Paul and Ollie (me). Once the conversation had finished, non diegetic music was played to added atmosphere to the scene.
